San Antonio dermatologist, Dr. Annabelle Garcia, is proud to offer one of the latest injectable fillers to enter the injectables market. Offering lasting results and used for the correction of lines around the mouth and the nasolabial folds, Bellafill is a collagen-based facial filler that adds immediate volume. Similar to some of the other collagen fillers on the market, Bellafill does require a simple allergy test prior to usage. Bellafill is composed of a unique blend of PMMA microspheres, which allows excellent results that can last for up to a full year. Dr. Garcia uses this injectable for her patients that need a little "lift" to their complexion. It is useful for filling in acne scars and pitted areas, as well as an acne scarring treatment for areas other than the face to create a smooth skin surface. Patients must be at least 21 years of age to receive a Bellafill injection.

Bellafill is injected directly into the skin through a fine needle syringe. It can be used as a scar treatment, or as a cosmetic dermal filler. Before the treatment begins, Dr. Garica will mark the injection areas and will apply a numbing ointment to help with discomfort during the injection process. Bellafill works in two distinct ways: first, the collagen adds lift and volume to areas where lines or pits exist. So scars will become softer looking, and the appearance of fine lines will diminish. Second, the PMMA within the filler creates a matrix that supports the body’s production of collagen. This is an important substance that keeps the skin looking young and supple. Bellafill is administered within our San Antonio dermatology office during an appointment that typically takes about 30 minutes. This treatment is customized based on the patient's needs and goals, including the proper dosage amount, formulation, and injection location.
What to Expect
As with most fillers, after a Bellafill injection, patients will see their results immediately. Mild redness and swelling will appear on and around the injection site, but this typically goes away within 24 hours, leaving the skin to appear softer and younger. Laugh lines, if treated with this injection, will slowly diminish over the following days. Patients should avoid exercise for at least 18-24 hours after a Bellafill injection. The results following this procedure look natural and beautiful, and they are long lasting too!
The cost for a Bellafill treatment does cost a bit more than other facial fillers, averaging around $1,500-$2,000. This is due to the unique makeup of the filler and its lasting results.

Is it Safe?
Yes, this filler is safe to use. Dr. Garica will recommend patients complete an allergy test prior to treatment to avoid an allergic reaction to the collagen product. This product was approved by the FDA in 2006 and has been proven to be safe and effective for treating laugh lines, as well as acne scars.
Yes, patients will see their results from a Bellafill injection almost immediately. Bellafill replaces lost volume in the skin and the results are both immediate and long lasting.
Botox or Filler?
Dr. Garcia offers both BOTOX, which is a wrinkle relaxer, as well as injectable fillers, which fill in lines and wrinkles. The two products work completely different, but produce similar results. It is common for patients to use a combination of a wrinkle relaxer and wrinkle filler to attain optimal results. Generally, BOTOX is used along the forehead to treat lines that run horizontally, as well as Crow's Feet. For lines that appear between the eyebrows, if they are deeper, a filler may be a better option. Fillers are used to fill in lost volume, most commonly in the cheek area, laugh lines, lips, and other areas that need volume.
